Event Description:

The San Juan National Historic Site will host an event on Sunday, July 23rd, that will provide a
family-oriented space for people to reinterpret their Latino roots through art. The event, named
Pinta tu historia will include 2 main activities: live paintings from the local artist José I. Felix
García, M.A. and several stations with art-related tools and materials for people to either follow
Felix’s models or to paint what they interpret is the history of the park and/or how it connects to
their personal and collective Hispanic roots. Felix has a project titled Reconstrucción Histórica y
Conceptualización A Través del Arte in which he aims to reinterpret different parts of the Puerto
Rican history (including the park) through his vision and artwork. Also, there will be special
materials for kids to create their own artistic pins. For this event, we will provide several stations
that will consist of long tables around the main plaza at Castillo San Cristóbal in which people
can actively join and create their own paintings. There will be a panel in which people can hang
their paintings after they finish to create a collective piece of history through art that can be
shared in social media. The activity will be hosted and supported by Latino Heritage Intern
Yaneris Soto, volunteers, and park rangers.
As a complement of the activity, we will invite a Bomba group for the enjoyment of our visitors.
This type of music is deeply inserted in our Hispanic and Caribbean roots and we expect people
to actively integrate into this artistic expression.
