Getting to Know H20

Event Description:

J. Checo Colón-Gaud, Ph.D., Professor of Biology with Georgia Southern University, will be joining us to host this one-of-a-kind water workshop for Latino Conservation Week! Research in his lab focuses on the ecology of freshwater ecosystems, with most of his recent and ongoing work focused on tropical headwater streams in Puerto Rico and Panama. Additionally, his lab is involved in research efforts to explore the ecology of coastal plain streams, rivers, and wetlands in southeastern Georgia.

Through this workshop, participants will: learn about various water quality issues in Georgia and why it is important to monitor water quality; get hands-on experience testing water and monitoring for macroinvertebrates; and learn how individuals can participate as volunteer citizen scientists through the Georgia Adopt-A-Stream program. In addition, Dr. Checo Colón-Gaud will share his experience and the importance of promoting diversity in environmental science and research.
